"I love to see anything that implies a simpler mode of life and a greater nearness to the earth. " — Henry David Thoreau
"Man-made clothing fibers, such as nylon, spandex, and Teflon (—ed. even bamboo, which is a made-made fiber that has gone through many caustic and chemical processes), have only replaced cotton, wool, and silk (—ed. and linen and hemp) over the last sixty years. During this time there's been a significant increase in health problems that may be associated with wearing synthetic garments: fertility problems, respiratory disease, contact dermatitis, and cancer." — from Killer Clothes by Anna Maria & Biran Clement
Are you looking to simplify your life? To purify your home and wardrobe? Are you concerned about the chemicals in conventional clothing and bedding? Are you fed up that so many products are made in sweatshops? So are we! Have you got MCS (multiple chemical sensitivities) or TILT (Toxicant-induced loss of tolerance) and need hypo-allergenic clothing & bedding? You've come to the right place!
We are organic hemp clothing. Not just any hemp, but organic European Hemp. We are organic cotton clothing. We are organic linen clothing. We are 100% natural clothing. Oh, and bed, bath, kitchen and home products, too! All chemical-free, hypo-allergenic, and sweatshop-free.
It started with our low tolerance for and high aversion to chemicals. Because we were chemically sensitive, we needed to find stuff that didn't trigger allergic reactions. Failing to find suitable natural products that met our purity and sustainability needs, we started making organic cotton, linen, and hemp products in 1999. We have grown to over 1,000 organic products since.
All the products we offer are sweatshop-free. We make our chemical-free organic cotton, linen, and hemp products here in the USA, Canada, and Europe, and NOT *you know where*. Our organic products are free of all the nasties like BPA, PVC, dioxin, formaldehyde, heavy metals, petrochemical dyes, flame-retardant chemicals, wrinkle-proofing chemicals, and animal cruelty. Pretty neat, eh?
Our organic cotton, linen and hemp products are designed for (and by) chemically sensitive people with compromised immune systems and people who have undergone surgeries & chemotherapy. But that also makes our products great for everyone else, too, since it's not just what's in our clothing and bedding (all the organic goodies) that matters. It's what's been excluded (like all the nasties) that matter more. It's never a good idea to expose yourself to industrial and household chemicals, period. Don't wait until allergies come calling. Prevent them by going pure!
Over the years, our customers have found amazing uses for the organic products we put out: from busy executives in big cities (hemp suits), to yogis meditating in caverns (hemp yoga mat & clothing), to MCS folks trying to fend off the chemical world (organic undies & socks), to posh organic resorts around the world (hemp shower curtains & organic mattresses, towels and bed linens), to entrepreneurs making hiking sandals, candles, and dog toys (hemp ropes & twines), to couples exchanging vows in hemp attire (the whole nine "hemp" yards). You are what you eat (eat fresh organic foods). You are what you wear (wear organic chemical-free clothes). It's that simple.
As a small-scale manufacturer, we are able to pay attention to all the little details that matter. Like finishing our fabrics in Germany, with its stringent environmental regulations. Or combing our hemp to achieve soft fiber instead of breaking it down with acids. Read more about Rawganique.com and our full-time self-sufficent homesteading life. "If you assume that there's no hope, you guarantee that there will be no hope. If you assume that there is an instinct for freedom, that there are opportunities to change things, there's a chance you may contribute to making a better world. That's your choice." — Noam Chomsky
Many mainstream big-name clothiers are now offering so-called "organic cotton, linen, or hemp clothing," usually made in China & India. Independent lab tests in Germany have found as much as 30% GMO cotton in them. Cotton fabrics claimed to be organic turned out to contain only 3% organic cotton, with the rest being conventional cotton and artificial fibers. Many clothiers also treat linen and hemp fabrics with so much chemicals that they could hardly be called organic or natural anymore.
As a small manufacturer, we take pride in using only 100% organic cotton, linen, & hemp from countries with strict environmental and labor standards (EU, USA, Canada). We obtain our organic fibers from small growers, then weave luxurious natural & organic fabrics in small batches, before sewing and finishing them with a mind to environmental sustainability. Much of the price you pay for our products goes towards the raw organic materials, production costs, and fair wages.
Eco is eco, right? Well, not exactly.
Many merchants claim to offer "eco" products but don't tell you where the fibers are grown, how they are processed, and where the products are made. Many retailers say nothing about the origin of the products they sell; or they simply say "Imported". Imported? No kidding! But from where? And if the products are from a sweatshop country, how can it be eco? Right? Go figure.
If a retailer doesn't tell you where something is made, in this day and age you might as well assume that it's from a sweatshop country. Or it may be made in the USA, yet the fiber is from a chemically-treated source from a country with little regard for the environment or human rights. The products might be cheap, but if you factor in the true costs to Mother Earth and future generations, they ARE expensive, way too expensive.
Plus, many "eco" fibers aren't really eco if you start asking questions. Tencil is from virgin wood. Soy is mostly contaminated with GMO. And bamboo has been chemicalized beyond recognition of the original bamboo plant - how else could the hard bamboo stems be made into such a soft fiber?
That leaves only organic cotton, hemp, and linen: the three ancient fibers that have clothed, sheltered, and nourished humans since written history began.
As for Rawganique's products, we make sure that we get hemp, organic cotton, and linen fibers that are organically grown and processsed in Europe and USA, and have them made into comfy "eco" clothing and home products in USA, Canada, and Europe. Sweatshop-free. And as chemical-free as possible.
Eco. Really? Always ask!!!
The spiritual birthplace of Rawganique.com is in a picturesque town in Transylvania (now called Romania), with its long illustrious history of artisan hemp. The actual birthplace of Rawganique is on Denman Island, a little island in the strait of Georgia, where in 1999 two off-the-grid homesteaders started a revolution in the Eco clothing, footwear, and bed bath and home industry by aiming for true purity above all else.
They started making, with the help of a team of artisans, sweatshop-free organic products from start to finish. All done in-house with 50 artisans with many lifetimes of experience and passion. State of the art modern equipment. Ancient traditional practices. Grow weave sew. Small scale but full scale comprehensive. If it can be made with organic fibers, we can make it.
Pledging having nothing to do with pesticides, GMO, formaldehyde, dioxin, bleaches, acids and heavy metals. Growing food year round. Living In Nature. We want you to love wearing what we make everyday knowing that everything we make won't harm the earth or you. Or our artisans.
