ABOUT RAWGANIQUE
Rawganique specializes in plastic-free organic cotton, linen, hemp and merino clothing and home textiles that are made in USA and Europe for true sweatshop-free purity since 1997.
A new mindset: The best-dressed person in the room is the most healthfully-dressed person ... who wears plastic-free, synthetic-free clothing ... down to the thread and trims (organic cotton thread, plastic-free natural buttons, natural elastic, organic cotton interfacing). Health comes first, both human and planetary health, don't you agree? What marketers don't tell you is that synthetic clothes may make you look "sexy" and "cool" but they can also make you sick by messing with your endocrine system and hormones (think fertility). Healthy organic cotton, hemp, linen and merino fibers have been with humanity from the beginning; we don't need to look to Big Tech to come up with new trendy fibers. Bamboo and other supposedly eco fibers may be so full of forever chemicals and plasticizers that they simply are not healthy for humans (sorry!). When we are confident, authentically ourselves, and healthy in our own skin, we look great wearing clothes that come 100% from Nature and go 100% back to Nature! Healthy is the new Sexy & Cool.
Are you looking for comfy and cozy truly plastic-free clothing without synthetic fibers?
If so, you're in the right place! The clothing and home products in our Purity Collection are handcrafted from organically grown and traditionally processed natural fibers without synthetics. Many of our customers are concerned about the possible effects of polyester (and other synthetic fibers like bamboo) on the endocrine and hormone system, not to mention the severe allergic reactions to elastane and polyester.
Founded in 1997 on an off-grid homestead
Rawganique was founded in 1997 by off-grid homesteaders on their animal sanctuary homestead on a small island in the Strait of Georgia. Rawganique.com was created in response to the request from the readers of their self-sufficiency blog who wanted to purchase the rustic handmade organic clothing and home textiles they were using on their homestead.
Where are your products made?
Rawganique products are made in small batches with pride in USA and Europe, sweatshop-free.
What makes Rawganique clothing 100% biodegradable?
It's all in the trims! At Rawganique, we have had to develop natural plastic-free buttons carved from tagua nuts and coconuts, organic cotton thread, organic cotton interfacing, organic elastic made from 50% organic cotton and 50% natural rubber, European cork & organic cotton labels, hemp and organic edging tapes and trims to use in our clothing because they were simply not available on the market. These trims are the secret ingredients that make the products in our Purity Collection 100% pure and 100% biodegradable. Most manufacturers of so-called "organic" clothing still use plastic buttons, polyester thread, polyester/elastane blend "natural" fabrics, synthetic interfacing, polyester labels, and chemical dyes and finishes that contain forever chemicals (any natural fabric clothing that claims to be wrinkle-proof, water-proof, shrinkage-proof, etc.. are likely treated with forever chemicals). Many of these trims and processes are even present in so-called certified organic products. If you've ever bought a "certified organic" shirt only to find plastic buttons, polyester sewing thread and/or organic cotton/elastane blend fabrics, or a pair of 100% organic cotton socks to find elastic or polyester in them, or a "certified organic" blackout curtain only to find the blackout layer made from acrylic or PVC or polyester, then you know this already.
At Rawganique, 100% biodegradable clothing and home textiles means no polyester, no elastane, no spandex, no bamboo, no plastic, no PVC, no chemical treatments, no microplastics, no forever chemicals, and no synthetics. Now, we enclose our products in biodegradable cellophane bags or translucent paper bags that are compostable.
We look to the ingenuity of the past to research ways to make elastic-free organic cotton, linen, hemp and merino socks, underwear, bras, clothing, and more. Before the Industrial Revolution, every garment was synthetic-free. It is possible, but difficult and expensive to do in this day and age of high-speed mass-produced fast fashion where most machines are optimized to work with synthetic threads.
Are your products certified organic?
Most of our natural fibers are certified organic. But our small sewing workshop is not, due to the prohibitive costs of certification. There are certifications available for every step of the manufacturing process, from growing of crops, to processing of fibers, to weaving and knitting of fabrics, to cutting and sewing final products, to storage and transportation. Many manufacturers get certification just for the last couple of steps to be able to claim that their products are certified organic. Also, certified organic just means that minimum 75% of the product is from organic fibers (there are different descriptions for different percentages), exclusive of trims. The law allows up to 2% of synthetic and other materials in a cotton fabric (or any other fiber) for it to still be labeled 100% cotton on the label, for example. At Rawganique, the standards that we impose on ourselves and our products far exceed those of any organic certifying body we know. Our 100% biodegradable products with zero synthetic fiber run circles around any product claiming to be organic that still use polyester thread, plastic buttons, polyester labels, and chemical finishes. We only make natural products at our small workshop and have done so since 1997; we don't use toxic chemicals at all at our workshop. Our workshops comply with all labor and safety regulations in USA and Europe.
The Process: Putting It Together
We process our fibers the traditional way. For hemp and linen, that means growing them organically in Europe without chemicals. The plant stalks are then dew-retted in the fields (time-consuming) and mechanically combed into beautiful long-staple yarns, ready for knitting and weaving at our workshop. We never use acids or toxic chemicals or forever chemicals to process our natural fibers as is often done in the garment industry.
We still carry some products that are less than 100% biodegradable, either due to the need for special support, strength or elasticity or zippers, which we aren’t able to manufacture ourselves (we use premium YKK zippers made from recycled components). We normally state the percentage of biodegradable components on relevant product pages. The goal is always to do better and come up with creative ways to get the percentage of biodegradability as high as possible for all categories of products we make.

Who We Are: Small family business, independent, homesteaders at heart, fair, animal-loving, we make things in small batches to maximize purity, we are small by choice. We are a US company based in Washington state.
Who You Are: Seeker of the plastic-free lifestyle who’s aware that the world is not a perfect place, you love our planet as much as we do, you understand that manufacturing truly pure clothing on a small scale has its many challenges and limitations so you don’t look for perfection where none exists (frankly, truly natural clothing cannot be perfect like plastic clothing full of forever chemicals). You are done with wearing plastic clothing disguised as sexy, luxury must-have items. You are concerned about what plastic synthetic clothing might do to your endocrine, hormones and fertility (especially synthetic underwear, bras and socks). You want real, you want truly natural, and you are willing to mend clothing as needed by watching helpful YouTube videos on how to gently care for and maintain natural fiber clothing. You understand that truly natural products are not as tough as synthetic plastic products which may last forever, to all our detriment (many influencers tout natural products as lasting forever, giving consumers unreal expectations; these same influencers get paid to push products from certain companies, so their advice is money-based). The problem with plastics and synthetics is they last forever, they never break down, they are strong, but they are probably not good for humans or for the environment. Truly natural products that are not treated with forever chemicals will last as long as you treat them gently and kindly. In other words, don’t throw organic linen, hemp or merino items into the dryer! Always use laundry net bags to protect your organic products.
Who You Are Not: Follower of fast fashions who’s full of entitlements and spoiled by Big Business into a cycle of shopping with unreal expectations. For Big Business, the consumer is the product for their partners to market cheaply made products to at the highest margin possible. To a Small Business, the customer is a friend who understands that you’re trying to create something beautiful out of what Nature provides and you’re on the same imperfect journey. If you expect Big Business experience, stay with Big Business and leave Small Businesses alone. Everyone will be better off that way.
Who We Are Not: We are not after insane profits. Our costs are very high, from fair labor to filler-free organic natural materials to tariffs to shipping not subsidized by couriers (Big Businesses pay almost nothing for shipping; that’s why they can offer free shipping, free returns, etc… which in the end, we all subsidize by having to pay high prices on shipping even a small package). There are just a lot of costs to running a small independent business. We aim for a little profit so that we can continue to do what we have loved doing since 1997: making products that are as natural and pure as possible in this imperfect world of ours where everything is mass-produced, from factory farming to industrial high-speed garment production. We don’t pay influencers to push our products; we want you to discover us by word of mouth or on your own, through a genuine search for functional products that are uniquely made from natural materials.
Free Shipping To Most of USA
Most orders over $350 qualify for free shipping (exceptions apply, like Hawaii and Alaska). For returns and exchanges, we do not offer free shipping. We ship worldwide; the customer is responsible for applicable tariffs, duties and brokerage fees imposed by the carrier and the customers’ home government. Customers overseas often tell us that the products we make simply do not exist in their country, and even after factoring in international fees our products are reasonably priced, considering that most of our products aren’t available anywhere else. We feel for you for the extra fees, and we hope that there’s a future where biodegradable products that are good for humanity and the planet are exempt from the vagaries of duties and fees and tariffs.
Thank you so much for your unwavering support through the thick and thin years. Thank you for choosing small, independent, sweatshop-free, organic and sustainable.
May peace, kindness, and sustainability prevail.
