Why is it important to emphasize"organic" and even more so to insist on "organic" when it comes to clothing, bedding, and accessories for children and expectant mothers?

If it is important that we wear only the purest and environmentally lightest clothing for our own health and that of our planet, then it is imperative that we give our children only those foods that are health-giving and those clothing products that are purest and of the highest quality, both for their health and the future that might not be there if we were to continue on our path of destructive consumerism. Our bias is towards pure organic products such as organic cotton and hemp and reusable and washable products such as organic cotton and hemp diapers and washable menstrual pads. Not only is conventional cotton products, for example, harmful to the environment (the cotton plant alone uses upwards of 25% of the world's pesticides, not to mention bleaches and dyes and other toxins, in it cultivation and manufacture), it is also harmful to us as the chemicals used to process and dye them go on releasing possibly harmful fumes and gases for a long time, just like a brand-new carpet would. And as our skin is porous, a lot of these toxins may find their way into our bodies, either through our respiratory or perspiration system.
