from the book :
The Human Nutrient Cycle is an endless natural cycle. In order to keep the cycle intact, food for humans must be grown on soil that is enriched by the continuous addition of organic materials recycled by humans, such as humanure, food scraps, and agricultural residues. By respecting this cycle of nature, humans can maintain the fertility of their agricultural soils indefinitely, instead of depleting them of nutrients, as is common today.
Food-producing soils must be left more fertile after each harvest due to the ever-increasing human population and the need to produce more food with each passing year. This book will forever change the way you view and think about the supposedly hygienic modern toilet. It will also outline the different ways (many of them very simple do-it-yourself-systems) that you can recycle greywater from your kitchen sink, shower, and more, thereby enriching your garden with an otherwise valuable resource that routinely gets dumped in septic tanks or our rivers and oceans, even in drought regions. Don't cheat your soil of valuable nutrients, don't pollute earth's waterways, don't waste gallons of drinking water with every little urge. Prior to the publication of this book, the foregoing little eco-voice in your head might put you in quite a dilemma as you wouldn't know how not to do any of these things. However, with the advent of this book, you no longer need to feel bad about defecating in drinking water and flushing the resulting "soup" down the drain! In this book, the little-known secret of how to put your feces to work for you and your garden is revealed.
About the Author: Joseph Jenkins lives with his wife, Jeanine, and several children, in western Pennsylvania on their 17 acre wooded homesite. He is an organic gardener, maintains an orchard, berries, a flock of chickens and some ducks. He began self-publishing books in 1995. Since then, he has produced three titles: The Humanure Handbook (first edition, 1995 and second edition 1999), The Slate Roof Bible (first edition 1997, second edition 2003), and Balance Point (2000).
