Care instructions:
Please note: You will notice that we make our organic cotton comforters 4 inches wider than the width of our organic cotton, linen, or hemp comforter covers (also called duvet covers) to better anchor the comforter inside the comforter cover. Once you put the organic cotton comforter inside the comforter cover and hold it end to end and give it a little shake, the four extra inches are then evenly distributed (hence "anchored") inside the cover and won't move as much as they would if there are no extra inches.
More detailed info:
Although manufactured like our organic wool comforter, its light fill weight makes our Organic Cotton Comforter feel more like a quilted blanket. We have experimented with more fill in the past but the result was a clumsy and very heavy (in actual weight) organic comforter that wasn't too comfortable to have on top of you all night! We've since changed the fill to a thinner layer that's lighter and more comfortable in weight, yet we've found that it's still plenty warm and cozy, even on very cold nights. The added benefit of a lighter weight is that our Organic Cotton Quilted Comforter is fully machine washable (whereas the fluffy organic cotton fill of the previous version did not allow machine washing). The organic cotton fill is breathable and keeps you comfortable year-round.
The organic cotton fill is heavier than wool and a tad lighter than hemp in weight; for this reason, we use a unique quilting technique (diamond grids -- please see photo below) that keep the organic cotton batting in place. The organic cotton fill will pack down slightly over time (unlike wool, which remains fluffy throughout its lifetime) but you can fluff it up by tumbling it on air cycle with a clean tennis ball (or do it the old-fashioned way by beating it with a mattress beater). Our organic cotton comforter is perfect for layering with organic blankets (like our new Euro-Luxury Hemp or Linen Terry Blanket) and for those who prefer to sleep on the comfortable side of cool. Made entirely in Canada for true purity.
The fabric we use to encase the organic cotton fill is a lush & silky-smooth certified organic cotton fabric with a dense 250 thread count.
Why organic cotton?? Because conventional accounts for 275 million pounds of pesticide use a year (bad for people, bad for the environment) and because conventional cotton is now grown mostly from genetically modified seeds (GMO's). The manufacturing of conventional cotton products also often involve highly toxic chemicals that will keep outgassing for years, which not only might disturb your sleep but may also pose danger to your health. Our organic cotton, hemp, and linen products are free of any toxic, pesticides, chemicals, or genetically modified crop, so you can be sure that your rest is peaceful and pure.
